The DM3E series stepper drive is a fully digital bus-type stepper drive product independently developed by Leadshine Intelligent Control Co., Ltd. based in Shenzhen. It is based on the ETC COE+CANopen DSP402 protocol and can seamlessly connect to controllers/drivers that support this standard protocol.
Compared to pulse-type stepper drives, the DM3E series stepper products offer the following advantages: ♦ Reduced Communication Interference, Extended Communication Distance In the pulse communication method, communication reliability is often compromised due to electromagnetic interference on the transmission lines carrying pulse signals.
In contrast, EtherCAT bus communication significantly enhances communication reliability through its built-in error detection, limiting, and processing mechanisms. This reduces the impact of interference on transmitted commands and extends communication distances.
♦ Improved Motion Performance The trajectory planning for non-periodic synchronous modes in bus communication type steppers is implemented within the driver. The controller only needs to transmit information like target position, velocity, and acceleration to the driver. This enables the driver to predict motion parameters for the next moment in advance and apply feedforward measures to enhance motion performance.
♦ Simplified System Wiring Complexity In the pulse communication method, each controller needs to communicate with individual drivers through pulse cables, resulting in dense and complex cabling in machinery. In EtherCAT bus communication, the controller only needs to connect with one driver using a cable. The remaining drivers can be connected in a daisy-chain fashion to that driver.
♦ Reduced Requirement for Control Unit Ports, Leading to Cost Savings Multiple bus-type stepper drives only need one port to be connected to the motion control unit (motion controller or motion control card), eliminating the need for pulse modules and avoiding the necessity to increase the number of control cards due to the higher number of drives. This, in turn, eliminates the need to consider limitations in the number of computer slots. It can lead to cost savings by reducing the costs of pulse modules, control cards, and industrial computers.
